Description

Panel Discussion with Wafaa Bilal, Artist; Christina Asquith, Journalist;  Bill Brislin, Vermont National Guardsman and Trainer of Iraqi Police Forces; and Samard Saaed Mohammed Jawad Al Sigar "Sammy", Iraqi Interpreter for Coalition Forces in Iraq for five years.  Nathan Suter, Executive Director of Helen Day Art Center and Judy Scott, Executive Director of VRRP will moderate.
Christina Asquith is a journalist  and author of "Sisters in War: A Story of Love, Family and Survival in the New Iraq". She has appeared on ABC News, NPR and Al Jazeera, and is an adjunct professor of women in Islam at UVM and resident of Burlington.
Bill Brislin is a member of Vermont National Guard and on the Burlington Police Force.  He was in Iraq training Iraqis to be police officers and worked directly with Sammy. Samard Saaed Mohammed Jawad Al Sigar "Sammy" recently arrived in Burlington as a refugee from Iraq.  He was a translator for Bill and others in Iraq.  He is currently doing physical training and studying so he can qualify to train to be a Burlington police officer.
