Kite Making Workshop with Lin Warren

1 day family workshop - ages 6 & up
Saturday, April 10
1:00 - 4:00pm
Great fun and quality time awaits you and your child as you both collaborate on your own kite creation. Design a kite to be as imaginative as you would like using simple guidelines. Then fly your hand-made kite in the exciting finale!! Come and create together. Supplies and snack included.

3-D Collages & Mosaics with Natasha Bogar

Use glass globs, stained glass, seeds, beans and tiles to create 3-D collages, also called mosaics. Learn about mosaics found all over the world, from Egypt to China, through interactive slideshows. Create beautiful pictures and functional pieces of art to be used around the house. Mosaics are a great way to experiment with pattern and freedom of expression! Snack and supplies provided.

Paper beads, glass beads, clay beads. Learn how to make beautiful jewelry with all different kinds of materials. Discover tricks to make your wearable art look professional. Students will learn about design (from random to symmetrical), how to attach clasps, use beading tools and other techniques. Capture the sheer exuberance of painting. Develop skills in a supportive environment that stresses process and expression, not just an end product. Using imagination and a range of media (watercolor, ink, and acrylics), students will experiment with painting still lives, interior spaces, the figure and landscapes - the sky's the limit! Explore concepts of color, composition, line, form, value and texture in order to create ever more complex and expressive works of art. This class will also help build your portfolio for college applications! Basic drawing experience is helpful, but not required.Supplies provided.

Explore the outdoors through art!  Join Angie for this 4-day art camp, where each day there will be nature walks on the Stowe Recreation Path, creative outdoor games, and lots of art using a variety of media.  This class will help young artists develop observation skills that they will use to draw what they see on their explorations with pastel, colored pencil, crayon, and marker drawings.  Bring sunscreen and walking shoes!  Supplies and snack provided.

Experiments with Animation Camp with Alison Bergma

Let's animate! This course exposes students to the many faces of animation, which, at its core, is the art of creating the illusion of moving pictures. But whether it's one of the Totoros of Miyazaki, Disney's winter fairies creating poetry on ice, or the wacky instructional animations of Sesame Street, animation is an art form that wears many masks. Each week, students in this course explore a different style of animation, functioning as animator, actor, camera operator and editor. Using a variety of drawn and two-dimensional media, they go on to create several exclusive short animations. Ultimately, students are introduced to a variety of techniques, including drawing, cut-outs, and pixilation, and learn to combine images with sound, producing a DVD of their work to share with family and friends.

This introduction to silk screen class will teach kids basic techniques for printing.  Students will learn about color, design, drawing and painting. From Calder to Tinguely with a touch of the Duchamp, we’ll explore what makes structure and movement relate. Then using found objects, wire, bicycle wheels and other recyclables we’ll construct mobiles and a collaborative kinetic sculpture. But why stop there - we’ll also experience the rattle, squeak, crash and thump that thrums underneath our colorful scraps.  Supplies and snack provided.

The architect, Santiago Calatrava has tipped the scales of creation when it comes to structures. We’ll see the latest and greatest in bridges beyond the basic and other structures that stretch into space. Then we’ll learn to sculpt with cardboard and other recyclable materials, bending, folding, crunching, and creasing to take over with our own original trestles.  Supplies and snack included.

This camp is designed to transform your world and all who step into it.  Installation Art is a modern mixed media art form that takes on a room and recreates it.  Thinking sculpturally, we’ll change our space using the simple materials provided to us by trees. With paper and cardboard, we’ll construct our own forest from canopy to floor. Then through the altering of old books, we’ll explore textures and text to discover the language within the leaves.  Supplies and snack provided.

Roll & Ink Printmaking with Angie Ianuzzi

Printmaking is a unique way to make pictures. Students will learn how to develop a composition that is suitable for carving into a soft rubber block called linoleum. Then, they will work through the printing process, producing a series of prints, so that they can really come to understand the technique, and learn how subtle changes in their process can affect the final prints.  Snack and supplies provided.
