K - 2 Grades
Times: 3 - 4:30 pm

Session I: Clay Classics with Natasha Bogar

Dates: Thursday - Sept 23, 30, Oct 7, 14

Explore the medium of clay through lessons and freedom to play. You will learn to roll coils, build pinch pots and use various tools to shape and imprint your work. Discover how to apply glazes by dipping and painting your pieces.
*Class will be held at the Townsend Ceramic Studio at Black Cap Coffee.

 

Session II: Mixed Media with Liz Kauffman
Dates: Thursday - Oct 21, 28, Nov 4, 11

Find out what Mixed Media really means!
This class offers students an opportunity to expand and stretch their artistic abilities.  Enjoy collage, sculpting, painting, sewing and much more.

 

Session III: Printmaking with Natasha Bogar
Dates:  Thursday - Nov 18, Dec 2, 9, 16

This introduction to printmaking will teach kids basic skills of creating multiple images. Students will create a variety of prints using different techniques from mono-printing on plexiglas to silkscreen. Aspects of color, shape, texture and pattern will be explored. Printing will be done on different types of paper and fabric.

3 - 5 Grades
Times: 3 - 5 pm

Session I: Halloween Costumes with Natasha Bogar
Dates: Wednesday - Sept 22, 29, Oct 6, 13
Design the costume of your dreams. We will sketch, design, and then create your costume. Kids will get to sew, make masks, paint, and do what ever is necessary to make the costumes become a reality. This class is full of creative input from the participants and guided problem solving skills from the teacher.
Session II: Clay Hooray! with Natasha Bogar
Dates: Wednesday - Oct 20, 27, Nov 3, 10
Students will participate in guided hand building activities with the teacher. They will also draw and design their own projects and then complete their ideas with clay. Colorful under-glazes will be used to paint the projects and finished with clear glaze.
*Class will be held at the Townsend Ceramic Studio at Black Cap Coffee.
Session III: Marbleizing with Natasha Bogar
Dates: Wednesday - Nov 17, Dec 1, 8, 15

This class will start with marbleizing papers with colors. Color theory will be introduced as we practice creating color harmonies. The papers will then be used to create photo frames, sketch book covers, and other objects created with mat board. Collage and painting will also be explored.

Dates: Thursday - Oct 21, 28, Nov 4, 11

Students will have the chance to draw and design sculptures of their imagination. We will use many resources to help develop the designs. With the clay we will carve and sculpt animals or other forms of the students' choice. Final decoration will be glazes and under-glazes. *Class will be held at the Townsend Ceramic Studio at Black Cap Coffee.

 

Session III: Art in 3D with Liz Kauffman
Dates: Thursday - Nov 18, Dec 2, 9, 16

This class is designed to keep the young artist's hands moving and mind creating.  A variety of media and exciting ideas will be explored - the possibilities are endless!  From funky boxes to paper mache dragons, students will discover how to make their work 3-dimensional.

OPEN STUDIO with Staff

Dates: Friday - Oct 1, 8, 15, 22, 29,

Nov 5, 12, 19, Dec 3, 10

HDAC provides the space and materials to come and work on your own creative ideas. Assistance and guidance will be provided by a staff member. Parents are welcome to join their kids in an artistic venture. Students are encouraged to use the time and space to work on school projects as well.
(Pass can be used any Friday between Oct 1-Dec 10)


 

INSTRUCTOR BIOS:

Liz Kauffman has been a resident artist and staff artist at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT since 2005. She is currently teaching art to home-school students in Johnson and has taught many youth classes at the Helen Day. Liz received her B.A. in Fine Art from the college of Wooster in Ohio. Natasha Bogar has been teaching art for over 10 years. She has her B.F.A. from the University for Maine and studied professionally at Studio Giambo in Florence, Italy. As an educator, she has taught everything from mural painting to silk-screening. Natasha also runs a fine art company with her twin sister. To see Natasha's artwork visit: www.twinspirations.us
